Low Tide, Big Views: La Jolla King Tides Hike
Bring in the new year with us at La Jolla Underwater Park at low tide. It's a day of King Tides and a rare opportunity to explore normally hidden sea caves and tide pools, and see spectacular beach homes.
Meet at the Marine Room parking lot and be ready to get your feet wet. Parking is available on the street: Spindrift Drive, Paseo Dorado, Roseland Drive, etc. Allow 15 minutes to secure a spot then walk to the Marine Room.
Date: Friday, January 2, 2026
Time: 2:30PM - 4:00PM
Location: Marine Room Parking Lot
Difficulty: Easy to moderate coastal walk
Who’s welcome: Cornellians, friends, and family
What to wear & bring: Comfortable shoes, sun protection, hiking poles if concerned about slippery rocks
Why this hike is unique:
King Tides occur only a few times a year and reveal parts of the shoreline most people never get to see. It’s a perfect way to start the year—fresh air, beautiful views, and great company.
